Arsenal have accidentally confirmed the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after mistakenly posting a video clip of Arsene Wenger talking about the new signing.
Aftera fortnight of intense talks, the Gunners finally agreed a club-record fee worth around £55 million with Borussia Dortmund – though they are now waiting on the German club to sign a replacement before the deal can be announced. But, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Arsenal uploaded a new video to their website in which Wenger confirmed that a deal for Aubameyang was already done.
The video was quickly removed from the website, but not before fast-acting Arsenal fans had seen the clip and downloaded it.
The interview, with Arsenal Player, begins with the interviewer saying: ‘So, Aubameyang is an Arsenal player, you must be delighted to get the deal done?’
Wenger responds by saying: ‘Yes, good news, we need people who can give us more offensive power, we are not efficient enough going forward and I believe he can bring that.’ Aubameyang is already in London and has been given clearance by Dortmund to undergo a medical, having agreed terms on a contract worth around £180,000-a-week.
That deal will make him the highest paid player at the Emirates – at least until Mesut Ozil signs his new deal – and the transfer will be officially announced as soon as Dortmund have signed their replacement. The German side had hoped to sign Olivier Giroud until Chelsea hijacked the deal, and now BVB are hoping to bring in Michy Batshuayi on loan to cover for the loss of Aubameyang
