Arsene Wenger handpicks Man City man as successor in potential shock summer exit

Arsenal Boss Considering Summer Exit

Arsene Wenger is considering quitting Arsenal in the summer as the Frenchman doubts he can take the club any further, according to reports.

The long-serving Arsenal boss signed a two-year deal last summer, but the contract allows for Wenger to walk in June should he chose to.

And the Mirror claim Wenger leaving is a real possibility and that he has already handpicked his successor.

Wenger wants former Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta to take over, with the manager set to move into the boardroom and call time on his coaching career.

Arteta has already moved into coaching and is a key member of Pep Guardiola’s team at Manchester City.

With City sitting top of the Premier League and on a seemingly unstoppable march towards to the title, Wenger believes Arteta could be the perfect man to pass the torch to.

Arsenal handed Wenger a new deal last summer despite a season of unrest, where the 69-year-old’s position was a constant point of debate.

Wenger is now in his 22nd year as Arsenal boss, but has struggled to replicate the success of his early years in the last decade.

Arsenal have not won the league title since 2004 and last season failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in Wenger’s tenure as boss.

There has been call for Wenger to be sacked as Arsenal manager.
