Arsene Wenger has revealed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is suffering will an illness ahead of Arsenal‘s clash with Everton.
Aubameyang, 28, completed a £56million move to the Emirates on deadline day and has been working on his fitness alone at the club’s London Colney training base.
The Gabon striker missed several of Borussia Dortmund’s most recent matches in anticipation of a transfer to Arsenal but managed the full 90 minutes of the side’s 2-2 draw with Freiburg.
However, Aubameyang has picked up a sickness and will have checks with Arsenal’s medical team before Saturday afternoon’s test against the Toffees. Asked when the forward will make his debut, Wenger responded: ‘He started [training] yesterday but wasn’t completely well. ‘I will see with the medical department.’
Wenger insists Aubameyang is a team player and is confident the attacker will bring pace and goals to his squad. ‘He is a typical striker with great pace and a good ratio between games played and goals scored,’ Wenger said.
‘He is a team player. ‘We lost some goals because we lost [Alexis] Sanchez, [Olivier] Giroud and [Theo] Walcott who were our goalscorers.’
