Just 24 hours after Arsene Wenger confirmed a deal was ‘likely’, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has finally given his thoughts on the transfer saga.
During his latest press conference, Pep Guardiola has congratulated Manchester United and Jose Mourinho on winning the race to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, declaring his opinion of Alexis ‘stays the same’ after his time at Barcelona
As you see in the above clip, Guardiola was philosophical after missing out on the Chilean.
“I think Alexis is going to go to Manchester United. So congratulations to them. The players and their managers decide what is the best for them. There’s nothing to add.” the Spaniard said in the press conference.
“My opinion of Alexis remains the same. It was a pleasure to be with him in Barcelona. I wish him the best.”
Guardiola was then asked why Manchester City didn’t match Manchester United’s offer for Sanchez, but he played down the question:
“I’m not a guy with the mathematics, with the numbers, so all I know right now is he is still an Arsenal player, Alexis Sanchez.”
Jose Mourinho, on the other hand, confirmed that United are in talks to sign Sanchez during his press conference on Friday, but said the deal is ‘not done at all,’:
“There is no point in trying to hide or deny, but it is not done at all. I think clearly everybody knows that we are there and especially when Arsenal manager speaks so clearly like he did.”
It has been a tug of war in terms of transfer rumours.
One minute the 29-year-old was on his way to Manchester City, the next he was off to Old Trafford – but it seems a deal has finally been struck between United and Arsenal for Sanchez’s signature.
